Pure green Myrtle essential oil, steam distlilled from wild-grown Myrtle bushes, originating in Turkey. Green Myrtle may be the preferred variety over 'red' in aromatherapy. It has been noted as one of the premier headache tension relievers if a small amount is applied to the temples.

Myrtle essential oil comes from a large, very fragrant bush native to North Africa. The leaves and berries have been used for 'drying and binding, good for diarrhoea and dysentery, spitting of blood and catarrhous defluctions upon the breast' (Culpepper, Complete Herbal). Dioscorides prescribed it for lung and bladder infections in the form of an extract made by macerating the leaves in wine. The leaves and flowers were a major ingredient of 'angel's water', a 16th century skin care lotion.

Myrtle essential oil has been researched for normalizing hormonal imbalances of the thyroid and ovaries, as well as balancing the hypothyroid. Myrtle has also been researched for its soothing effects on the respiratory system, and is commonly employed for resperatory complaints of the young and old. Myrtle Oil's aroma is thought to be elevating and euphoric; the oil is a pale yellow to orange liquid with a clear, fresh, camphoraceous, sweet herbal scent somewhat similar to Eucalyptus.
