For use particularly with our professional wood-base diffuser, it allows up to 8 on/off 'events' per day. The diffuser manufacturer as well as professional therapists around the world, recommend running the diffuser for only 3-10 minute ever hour for aromatic applications. Otherwise, your olfactory sense no longer detects the aroma.
We have folks tell us the can smell how good it is inside the store from out in the street, but some of us are completely immune from being immersed all the time. This same thing happens to those who run their diffusers continually (and there are reasons to do so, though we recommend turning the output down to a very low setting in most cases). These folks will not know how wonderful the aroma is in their space, but someone who just walked in generally remarks on "how wonderful it smells in here"!
Further, purely for the conservation of oil, the timer is a great way to go. You won't forget it's on (the Synergy Essentials diffuser is very quiet) and go through all your oil - and of course you'll be able to maximize your ability to smell your essential oil or blend as noted above.
